SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION!

Summer School will be held virtually this year from June 23rd to July 23rd. Summer school is free for all students this year. You will register online at the link below. If you do not know which course you need to take, please contact your school counselor directly.

SENIORS - CAP & GOWN PICKUP!

Cap and gown pick-up will be at Washington High School Thursday, April 23rd from 12:00 to 3:00. We will be practicing social distancing. You will be directed to drive up to one of the loops in front of the building. You will not exit your car. Please place a piece of paper with your name in the window. A faculty member will bring your items to you.

ALSO: 

All seniors must complete the Final Transcript Form. The form informs us of your plans after high school. We will also use the form to send your final transcript to the college, recruiter, technical school, NCAA, etc. of your choice. If you want your final transcript sent to multiple locations, write them all on the same form.

Bring your completed form to the cap and gown pick-up on Thursday, April 23rd.

BRCTC ACCUPLACER INFORMATION

With the cancellation of SAT and PSAT Blue Ridge CTC is making the Accuplacer placement test available remotely. Students attending BRCTC or taking JumpStart or other classes there should be on the lookout for more information directly from BRCTC and should contact BRCTC with any questions.

FAFSA DEADLINE EXTENDED!!! DEADLINE NOW MAY 15TH!

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the deadline to complete your FAFSA and/or the WV Higher Education Grant has been extended to May 15th.  

PROMISE INFORMATION
As you know, the upcoming SAT and ACT tests for March and April have been postponed.  We know this is causing a lot of anxiety among students and families, and prompting several questions for your counselors.  At this time, students can still qualify for PROMISE by taking the JUNE SAT and the JUNE & JULY ACT.  If those tests are postponed or cancelled, then we will act promptly to reevaluate our statewide qualification deadlines.

IMPORTANT PROMISE CHANGES/ANNOUNCEMENTS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

The GPA requirements are being waived for current college students, not entering freshmen. The article also notes that additional changes  may have to be made for high school students if the SAT and ACT tests scheduled for June and July are postponed.

BUSINESS PARTNER SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE

The deadline for submission of the Business Partner Scholarships remains Thursday, April 2nd. 

The scholarship application may be submitted on line to me or Mr. Soltis. You may also place applications in the mailbox at the Board of Education. Please use a sealed envelope and direct it to Mr. Soltis if you leave it there. 

If you are unable to pickup an official transcript, you may print out your Live Grades record to enclose with your letter and other requested information. 

You may submit your application to me by attaching it to Live Grades or sending it to my email:  kalemar@k12.wv.us and Mr. Soltis is msoltis@k12.wv.us

SCHOLARSHIP IN CONSERVATION CHANGES!!!

DUE TO AN UNFORESEEN FINANCIAL HARDSHIP THIS YEAR, THE SCHOLARSHIP IN CONSERVATION SPONSORED BY THE IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE IS NO LONGER BEING OFFERED.  DO NOT MAIL THEM APPLICATIONS OR APPLY ONLINE!

RISING JUNIORS AND SENIORS!!!

Shepherd and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College now have their fall schedules available on their websites. If you plan on taking an English or Math class or a Psychology class at BRCTC, they are still requiring a test score from either SAT or ACT. At this time the June SAT and July ACT are still being offered. Please register for one of those tests. Make sure you include the codes to send the test scores directly to Shepherd or Blue Ridge. (SAT Code 5615 for Shepherd and 4892 for Blue Ridge) (ACT code is 4532 for Shepherd and Blue Ridge)

GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP (GSE)

US SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION

Did you know that all males are required to register with the US Selective Service beginning 30 days prior to their 18th birthday and extended 30 days thereafter?  Late registration is accepted up to your 26th birthday.  Failure to register prior to reaching the age of 26 may result in unfortunate life consequences, including:

** ineligible for employment by the Federal Government, the US Postal Service, and many state and local governments;
** ineligible to receive federal, and in some cases, state student financial aid;
** ineligible to receive job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act;
** ineligible for security clearances; and
** delay in citizenship proceedings.
